Kid at heart.
Kid at heart.
Steve Varney, a life in music, now made for little ears.
A New Chapter in Family Music
Steve Varney is a talented multi-instrumentalist and music teacher who performs live shows all over the world in front of thousands and writes original songs for children and families. This foray into the world of “family music” is his latest endeavor in a 20+ year musical career, and possibly his most creatively fulfilling to date.
Meet the Music Maker
Steve Varney lives in Colorado with his blended family of four and extended family nearby. As a parent, teacher, and songwriter, he is passionate about making music that imagines the whole family listening together.
Kid Reverie is built from that belief. The songs are funny, warm, and easy for kids to love, but they are also made with real songcraft, quality musicianship, and enough heart to keep caregivers from wanting to climb the walls after the first listen.
While working on music for both children and adults, Steve continues to tour with Gregory Alan Isakov, with whom he has played for more than 15 years. Gregory’s incredible supporting band is also featured in the Kid Reverie album recordings.
Importance of Big Feelings
Yes, the family music is mostly meant to make you smile, but it is not lost on Steve how important it is to feel big, real feelings, even as an adult. Listen carefully, and you’ll notice lyrics meant to make you think deeper and feel deeply, like in the lullaby “Hand in Hand,” written about how hard it can be to tour away from home.
A Voice of Their Own
For Steve, the belief that music can change your life comes from personal experience. As someone who has lived with a lifelong stutter, he found freedom in singing and songwriting. Music gave him another way to speak, another way to feel steady, and another way to turn what was inside into something he could share.
That experience lives quietly at the heart of Kid Reverie. The songs, lessons, stories, and creative tools are made to help kids explore their own voices, in whatever form those voices take. Every single person, young and old, deserves that opportunity.
A Little Sound Can Go a Long Way
Kids do not need music to feel perfect. They need it to feel possible. A guitar, a violin, a drumstick, a voice, or a made-up rhythm are all equal. Kid Reverie is built around that first spark: the moment a child (or an adult) realizes they can make a sound, join in, try again, and feel part of something.
Come Find Your Sound
Kid Reverie is for the kids still figuring out what they love, how they feel, and what kinds of sounds they want to make in the world.
Through songs, lessons, stories, shows, and creative play, it gives children a place to try, laugh, move, listen, begin again, and discover that their voice matters.
